What Vision Guides Results in No Time?

There seems to be a work crisis in the Western world. Old hierarchical structures and processes have broken down and continue to change. Perhaps as part of this change, workers have seriously considered why they're working, and how they want to work in the future. A great deal has been written about these issues, but not much of it deals with the fundamentals: How can work relate to our deepest human values? How can it help us realize our full human potential? Can we bridge the gap between working for others and working for ourselves? Can we bridge the gap between company time and personal life?

We need a new vision of work that faces these questions directly, yet doesn't depend on any old structures for its meaning. And we need a vision that guides us toward mastery and peak performance in all aspects of work--not the typical old strategy that focuses primarily on the company's productivity and profit.

For years Steve Randall reviewed the relevant literature, searching for a vision that was not only more effective and balanced, but showed no limitations whatsoever. He didn't find one, complained about it awhile, then decided to try to develop it himself. In early 1996 Dr. Randall completed Results in No Time, which introduces a vision of work that:

A graphic depiction of the Optimal Work vision follows. The central part of the circle represents different facets of a fairly enlightened perspective, while the periphery represents aspects of our usual Western cultural view. Our trip toward mastery in life can be imagined as moving from the periphery of the circle toward the virtues (or valued qualities of experience) at the center.

Results in No Time is very strongly influenced by the vision presented in the book Time, Space, and Knowledge.
